The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), led by CEO Dr. Hisham S. Aljadhey, has launched the Electronic Integration of Medications Risk Minimization Measures (RMMs) with several prominent hospitals. These hospitals include King Fahad Medical City, King Saud Medical City, Security Forces Hospital, King Abdulaziz Medical City, and Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare. This initiative was unveiled during the Global Health Exhibition held in Riyadh from October 27 to 30.
Through this electronic integration, the SFDA and participating hospitals are establishing a leading model for best practices in medication safety, contributing significantly to safeguarding public health in Saudi Arabia.
This national project aims to integrate Additional Risk Minimization Measures (aRMMs) into hospital electronic drug dispensing systems. Its purpose is to ensure that critical safety information reaches the right healthcare professionals and patients, raising awareness about the risks of certain medicines. By embedding these safety measures digitally, the SFDA aims to improve the safe use of medications and reduce serious side effects.
Results from the first three phases of the project, conducted between 2023 and 2025, have shown a marked improvement in physicians' awareness of risk reduction strategies and have made access to these measures easier for healthcare practitioners and patients alike.
