The Saudi food & drug authority has been actively working towards advancing public health in kingdom through ongoing strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening the healthcare system with the hope of improving access to effective treatment options & overall quality of life for the community.
One of the initiatives that just took place recently was approving a medical device that uses advanced deep brain stimulation technology. This technology was found to help physicians provide better treatment plans for patients with Parkinson’s disease as it provides them with real time data of each case thereby making it possible to customize treatment based on patient differences.
The SFDA explained that the device records brain signals and allows real-time adjustment of stimulation settings. Implanted in targeted brain regions, it treats neurological conditions like Parkinson’s disease by delivering customizable electrical pulses tailored to each patient’s needs, improving symptoms and reducing side effects. Its rechargeable design reduces the need for repeat surgeries.
